While it is possible to attempt with melee or magic, Ranged is the recommended combat style. At a minimum, you'll want 61 Ranged for RuneScape gold a Rune Crossbow, though 75 Ranged is highly recommended for the Toxic Blowpipe, which dramatically increases your odds of success. Having enough RuneScape gold can also help you succeed.
Best Gear Setup

Armor
Prioritize Ranged attack bonus and defensive stats:

At 70 Ranged, Hallowed Crystalhide armor or Blessed Dragonhide offers strong prayer bonuses and magic defense.
Accessories
Necklace: Necklace of Anguish > Amulet of Fury > Amulet of Glory.
Shield slot (if using a crossbow): Blessed Dragonhide Shield > Dragonhide Shield > Armadyl book.
Ring: Ring of Suffering (best for learners), Archer's Ring, or Brimstone Ring (budget).

10-12 Saradomin Brews
12 Super Restores

Fight Cave Monsters
Across 63 waves, you'll face seven enemy types:
Tz-Kih (Bats) - Drain Prayer on hit, even if they hit zero. Kill quickly.
Tz-Kek (Blobs) - Split into two small forms when killed.
Tok-Xil (Rangers) - Max hit 13, highly accurate. Use Protect from Missiles.
Yt-MejKot (Melee monsters) - Max hit 25, can heal themselves and others. Safe spot or pray melee.
Ket-Zek (Mages) - Max hit 54 with magic, also deals strong melee if close. Always Protect from Magic.
TzTok-Jad (Wave 63) - The final boss, hitting up to 97. Switch between Protect from Missiles and Protect from Magic.
Yt-HurKot (Healers) - Spawn when Jad reaches 50% health, healing him until distracted or killed.
Safe Spots
The most reliable safe spot is Italy Rock, a formation in the middle of the cave shaped like the country of Italy. It's used to trap melee enemies while you safely deal with rangers, mages, and bats. Other protrusions around the cave can also serve as temporary safe spots.
Wave Strategies
Early waves - Stand at Italy Rock and kill bats at a distance to prevent Prayer drain. Safe spot blobs when possible.
Wave 7 - Rangers begin to appear. Always pre-activate Protect from Missiles at the end of wave six.
Wave 15 - First melee monster arrives. Use Italy Rock to trap it while focusing on Rangers.
Wave 31 - First mage spawns. Always Protect from Magic, and never get into melee range.
Wave 52 - A ranger and mage spawn together. Stay on Protect from Magic and prioritize killing the ranger.
Wave 62 - The final wave before Jad. Set your crossbow to cheap Runescape gold long range, position yourself near Jad's spawn point (revealed by the spawn of the last mage), but don't stand too close.
